Aeon Flux
Recently, as I have already stated, I went to see "Aeon Flux" the movie. All in all it was a highly entertaining movie. Good action, good graphics, cool story and a hot chick in leather ... just kidding about that last part. Anyway, as I was saying, all in all it is a good movie. There was, however, one thing that happened at the end of the movie that still bothers me and I wish to address this issue for all of those who haven't seen the movie so that I can correct the mistake.
At the end of the movie, after all of the action is over, after all of the fighting is complete, after the story has begun to run down Trevor (the main male lead) asks one of his aides whether he was part of the whole plot (I will not divulge anything do not worry) and his aide responds with something along the lines of "We may be a lot of things but we aren't Anarchists!" !!
It is comments such as this that do not help. If one were to look up the term "anarchy" in the Merriam-Webters English dictioary one would find the following "a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government". When one reads the headlines in newspapers or listens to the news or hears quotes such as the afore mentioned from "Aeon Flux" one would definately not think that anarchy is supposed to be a utopian society. Instead, one would get the feeling that anarchy (and Anarchists) is an evil state. A lawless state to be avoided at all costs.
I will be the first to admit that there are radical Anarchists out there who are violent and should probably be jailed but that shouldn't make the term Anarchist a negative term. I could easily argue that there are some radical Christians out there who are violent. One's who wear white hats and wear bed-sheets and do stupid and terrible things in the name of ignorance. So because of these few should I then use the would Christian in a negative sense? (I am using Christian because I was raised a Christian and have been considered a Christian since birth).
So, to stop myself from going off onto a major topic and writing a book on this blog, for those of you who go to see "Aeon Flux" and for all of you who hear the term "Anarchist" or "anarchy" being used in a negative context please try to keep in mind that anarchy is supposed to be based on the ideal society and that, in general, most Anarchists are peaceful people. Thank you.
